Step 3
Add a single layer of the thickly sliced bread into the prepared baking dish.
What is the best bread to use for French Toast?
While classic bread is always welcomed, I learned from Alton Brown years ago that using Challah, Country Loaf, or Brioche Bread provide the best French toast results!
Why? These breads typically have a pillowy-soft interior and are already subtly sweet to compliment the nature of French toast.
Step 4
Using a spatula, add the cream cheese mixture and spread out evenly.
Step 5
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and milk until smooth and well-combined. Set aside.
Step 6
Add another single layer of bread and gently press down.
Evenly pour the egg mixture over the layered bread.
Step 7
Cover with tin foil and let chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350F.
Bake covered for 30 minutes, and uncovered for 30-40 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. Garnish with fresh strawberries and a drizzle of maple syrup.

How to store leftover French toast?
Within an hour of cooking, cover the French toast with foil or plastic wrap. If you have only a few servings left, you can store in an airtight container or plastic bag. Store in the fridge up to 3 days.
To freeze: Place a sheet of wax paper between each slice of French toast, then wrap tightly in aluminum foil or place in a freezer safe bag. Store up to 1 month.
How to reheat leftover French toast?
Preheat the oven to 400F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place the French toast slices in a single layer on the baking sheet, leaving a little space in between.
Reheat for 6 to 8 minutes, flipping the toasts over halfway through. Serve and enjoy warm!
