Ep. 10 of my Cozy Soups & Grilled Cheese Series! ⛷ This Tomato Bacon Cheddar Grilled Cheese is a recipe my Poppa has been making me since I was a little girl - it's cheesy with juicy tomatoes and crispy bacon for an adventurous grilled cheese!
Grilled cheese sandwiches are perhaps one of the most satisfying yet easiest meals to make! However, there are a few cardinal rules to consider when wanting to make it absolutely perfect.
Have Patience. To reach the golden brown, crispy outsides you'll need to work at a low temperature on the stovetop at about 3-4 minutes on each side. You just have to be patient for about 5-7 minutes!
Use Softened Butter or Mayo or Olive Oil. Mayo does have a higher smoking point but if you're patience enough to cook at a low temp than softened butter and olive oil work wonders.
Good Coverage. Make sure your spreads, cheeses, and an additional fillings reach to all the edges for equal deliciousness in every bite.
Use a Cheese Born to Melt. You could add parmesan, manchego, ricotta, etc to your grilled cheese, but be sure to compliment it with a melting cheese like sharp cheddar, muenster, and American.
Use Sourdough (if Possible). You want a bread with a tight crumb to keep the cheese from falling out and burning in your pan. Sourdough is incredible for grilled cheese, but you can also use white breads.
