Sourdough Cheez-its Recipe
These homemade sourdough cheez-its are easy to make in the blender, fluffy, cheesy, crunchy, and a must try better-than-store bought snack this summer!
Ingredients
Servings: 8+
- 8 oz. Sharp Cheddar Cheese, grated
- 1 cup All Purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup Active Sourdough Starter
- 1/4 cup Cold Butter, cubed
- 1/2 tsp. Fine Sea Salt
- Flaky Salt, for garnishing
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325F.
- In a food processor, combine the flour, salt, and grated cheddar. Pulse until well combined.
- Add the butter and pulse 2-3 more times, until crumb like texture.
- Add the sourdough starter and mix on LOW until moist crumb-like texture. The dough will be a little crumbly but can stick together when pressed between two fingers.
- Roll out the mixture with a rolling pin between two sheets of parchment paper to 1/8" thick. Use a spatula to help press in and square off any edges.
- Use a flutter pastry cutter to slice the individual cheez-its squares, about 1" squares, then a toothpick to poke the centers.
- Sprinkle with flaky salt before baking, if desired.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until puffed up and deep golden color. If needed, separate the cheez-its in the last 5 minutes of baking so the edges are crispy. Otherwise, they should separate easily after baking.
- Let cool completely before storing away.
