You'll want to save this Mini Hot Honey Fried Chicken Biscuits Appetizer Recipe! Buttermilk biscuits that's flaky. Fried Chicken that's crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and brushed in a hot honey sauce. What more could you ask for?!

This has been my GO TO Buttermilk Biscuits recipe for so long now. Whether I'm making them for fried chicken biscuits or plain with jam and/or eggs, this is the recipe I use.

Ingredients to make Buttermilk Biscuits:

  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 tbsp. Baking Powder
  • ¼ tsp. Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp. Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 6 tbsp. Cold Butter, grated or sliced into cubes
  • ¾ cup Buttermilk

How to make homemade Buttermilk Biscuits?

  1. Preheat oven to 450F. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt together.
  3. Add the grated butter. Use a fork or your hands to mix until crumb-like texture.
  4. Add the buttermilk and mix until a moist dough.
  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to ½” thick. Use a 2” cookie cutter or glass to cut the biscuits. Place on the prepared baking pan.
  6. Bake for 8-12 minutes, until golden brown on top.

TIPS for Making Perfectly Flaky Biscuits:

  • Use COLD Butter.
  • Incorporated the Butter first before adding any other liquids.
  • Pat the dough out on a floured surface, rather than rolling it before using a cookie cutter.
  • Do NOT overwork the dough. Keep things to a "just combined" mindset ;)

  • 1 ½ cups Buttermilk

  • 1 tsp. Italian Herb Seasoning
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • Neutral Oil, for frying

Why is the Buttermilk Important for Fried Chicken?

Marinating the chicken breasts in the buttermilk is what makes the chicken juicy and tender after cooking! So the long it sits, the more tender your chicken will be. It also acts as a "sticky" agent to create those beautiful flaky crispy edges when frying.

How to make Hot Honey Fried Chicken?

Do you ever have those silly "ah ha" moments that you look back on? For me, its the concept of homemade hot honey. I truly couldn't tell you why my mind thought it to be more complicated then it is, guess that proves me wrong for never slowing down to think about it LOL

Homemade Hot Honey is simply equal parts hot sauce and honey. Of course, you can adjust the hot levels to taste.

And lastly, you just brush the hot honey mixture over your fried chicken AND LOOK HOW AMAZINGLY TASTY they look! Heheh

Assembling the Hot Honey Fried Chicken Biscuits:

  1. Slice the buttermilk biscuits in half lengthwise.
  2. Add a fried chicken nugget brushed in the hot honey sauce. Add the top slice of the biscuit.
  3. Garnish with a brush of butter and flaky salt, or a drizzle of honey. Plate with pickles (of course) ;)

How to keep fried chicken crispy?

The best way (in general) to keep foods crispy is to place them on a baking cooling rack over a sheet pan. Place them in the oven at 250F to 300F to keep warm as you fry the remaining batches or prepared the rest of the dish.

How to reheat fried chicken?

Place the fried chicken on a baking cooling rack set over a sheet pan (for extra crispiness) or on a parchment paper lined sheet pan. Bake at 400F for about 5-6 minutes, flip them over, and bake an addition 5-6 minutes, until crispy and warm through.

For the Fried Chicken:

  • BUBBL’R Cherry Guava Blend’r Antioxidant Sparkling Water
  • 1 ½ lb. Chicken Breasts, boneless & skinless
  • 1 ½ cups Buttermilk
  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • ½ cup Honey
  • ½ cup Hot Sauce
  • 1 tbsp. Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp. Italian Herb Seasoning
  • 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
  • Neutral Oil, for frying

For the Biscuits:

  • 2 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 tbsp. Baking Powder
  • ¼ tsp. Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp. Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 6 tbsp. Cold Butter, grated or sliced into cubes
  • ¾ cup Buttermilk

Instructions

For the Fried Chicken:

  1. Slice the chicken into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3” wide. Place into an airtight container or plastic bag. Pour the buttermilk on top and seal tight. Set in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
  2. Add enough neutral oil to a large pot to be 3-4” deep. Heat the oil to 350F.
  3. In a large bowl, mix the flour, seasoning, garlic powder, and baking powder together.
  4. Using a slotted spoon, dredge the chicken through the flour mixture to coat well. Place on a separate plate.
  5. Fry the chicken in small batches until golden brown on both sides, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk the honey and hot sauce together. Generously brush the chicken in the sauce.
  7. (If needed to keep warm and crispy: Place a baking rack on top of a baking pan. Place the chicken on the baking rack. Place in the oven at 250F to keep warm up to 25 minutes.)

For the Biscuits:

  1. Preheat oven to 450F. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt together.
  3. Add the grated butter. Use a fork or your hands to mix until crumb-like texture.
  4. Add the buttermilk and mix until a moist dough.
  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to ½” thick. Use a 2” cookie cutter or glass to cut the biscuits. Place on the prepared baking pan.
  6. Bake for 8-12 minutes, until golden brown on top.
  7. To Assemble: Slice the biscuits in half lengthwise, add a fried chicken nugget, then the top half of the biscuit. Serve warm with pickles.
