Easy Homemade Pita Bread Recipe
Fresh pita made at home couldn't be easier! It's fluffy, no complicated kneading, and can be used in a variety of ways.
Ingredients
Servings: 6
- 2 cups All Purpose Flour
- 1 tbsp. Granulated Sugar, or Honey
- 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
- 1 tsp. Fine Sea Salt
- 1 tsp. Instant Yeast
- 3/4 cup Warm Water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Set aside to bloom 5 minutes.
- Add the olive oil and flour. Mix until shaggy dough and all the flour is absorbed.
- Knead the dough for 1-2 minutes, until a smooth and pliable dough.
- Cover and set aside in a warm environment for 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
- Heat up the oven to 550F. Place a heavy duty baking pan or stone inside to heat up.
- Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Divide into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a tight ball.
- Let rest for 10-30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough balls with a rolling pin so it's an even surface that's about 6" round. Let rest 10-15 minutes.
- Cooking in batches of 3-4 pitas, add the pitas to the heated baking pan or stone. Cook for 2 minutes, until lightly golden.
- Store pita at room temperature in an airtight container for 3 days, or freezer up to 3 months.
