What is a Danish?

A Danish pastry (often shortened to just Danish) is a multilayered laminated sweet pastry - a concept brought to Denmark by Austrian bakers where the recipe was change a little bit to accommodate to the Danes' liking.

And while you can make the Danish pastry by hand - which would be amazing - puff pastry is a great altenerative that provides the same flaky crust base without the struggle and mess!

How to make homemade Danish pastries?

  1. Preheat oven to 400F. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth.
  3. Add in the lemon zest, lemon juice, maple syrup, and milk. Beat until combined.
  4. On a floured surface, lightly roll out the thawed puff pastry.

  6. In the center of each puff pastry circle, add 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture. Then, add a small dollop of the strawberry jam on top.
  7. Brush the puff pastry edges with an egg wash.
  8. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
