Our Healthy Swedish Meatballs in Creamy Sauce has nestled its way into our hearts here in the ABM kitchen - rich, nutty, creamy, heartwarming. Not only will it have your kitchen smelling like Heaven on earth, but I can guarantee it'll be a crowd-pleaser!
While I'm sure there are plenty of Swedish grandmothers with the most amazing recipes that have been passed down for generations, I'll have to say that this recipe could definitely be a close runner-up. It has all the components of those traditional Swedish meatballs - rich, creamy, juicy - but with a healthier twist - lower in calories, no butter, no heavy cream.
In addition, I made just a few slight twists of my own style to add a little nuttiness and warmth to the overall flavor of the meatballs. The secret ingredient? Nutmeg!! It's optional BUT very highly recommended.
While the holidays this year may present smaller gatherings, this recipe is also great for meal prepping! By browning the meatballs prior to fully cooking them in the sauce, it will help keep them juicy and tender for 3-4 days when properly stored.
