This is THE Ultimate BLT Sandwich with Oven-Baked Honey Bacon, quick Caramelized Onions, and a 4-ingredient homemade Chipotle Aioli. It's rich in flavor with simple ingredients, high in protein, and easy to make!

And if you've been around here for a while, you'll have noticed my favorite way to cook @applegate Uncured Sunday Bacon... I bake it in the oven with a generous drizzle of honey for a deep caramelization and crispy bacon every 👏🏼 time 👏🏼 I've been doing this for years and it's basically fool proof !! 🙌

How to make caramelized onions QUICK?

Traditionally, caramelized onions take about 40-60 minutes of slow cooking. However, we're here to speed up the process a little bit!

  1. While the bacon is cooking, add the olive oil to a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and salt. Stir to combine.
  2. Sauté for 8-10 minutes, until tender and fragrant, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  3. Add ¼ cup water to the onion and stir until the water has evaporated, about 1-2 minutes. Repeat this process until the onions are deeply caramelized. If needed, reduce heat to medium to keep from burning.

How to make Oven Baked Bacon?

  1. Place the bacon in a single layer on the prepared baking pan.
  2. (Optional but highly recommended!) Evenly drizzle the honey over the bacon slices.
  3. Bake for 10-15 minutes, flipping the bacon and rotating the pan halfway through, until golden and crispy.

What is Applegate?

For over 30 years, Applegate has been producing the highest quality, all natural and organic hot dogs, bacon, sausages, deli meats, cheeses, and frozen meat products. In fact, my mother has been buying their meats for well over 20 years! Growing up, Applegate products were always spotted in our family fridge.

What I love about Applegate is that they require all animals to be raised without antibiotics. Applegate is committed to advancing agriculture and processing systems like organic, non-GMO, and a holistic approach to happy, healthy animals producing clean meats.

What is different about Applegate's Sunday Bacon?

Applegate's Sunday Bacon is made with humanely raised pork that was raised on family farms and NOT in crates. Their pork was also raised on a vegetarian feed diet and no facto-amine (a beta-agonist growth promoting). No antibiotics! No preservatives! All natural and organic!

How to Assemble a BLT Sandwich:

Well, it's as simple as....

  • Mayo
  • Tomato
  • Bacon
  • Lettuce

TIP: Dividing the lettuce and using half on the bottom on the bread and the other half on top will help to keep the bread from getting soggy with the tomato juices as fast!

Can BLT Sandwiches be made in advance? How to store leftover sandwiches?

Technically, you can wrap your BLT Sandwich in parchment paper and store in the fridge up to 3 days. However, when you think about saving a Jimmy Johns sandwich and all it's juices making the bread soggy after an hour or so, that's the same thing here. Once you put your sandwich together, it can't sit long without the natural liquids of the tomato and lettuce leaching into the bread and making the once crispy bacon soggy. So, for best flavor and textures, eat right away!

OR... you can prep all ingredients and store in individual container to reheat the bacon later, and reassemble later!

Now, it’s time to grab our aprons and begin baking deliciousness! ’till next time! xxL
