Crispy, creamy, fresh... it's the ultimate 5 minute Caprese Sandwich!
Growing up, my family would travel down to South Florida quite often since that's where one set of my grandparents resided. And without flaw, the very MINUTE we arrived, we would drive over to our favorite Italian bakery downtown Fort Lauderdale. I have that bakery to thank for my love of Italian pastries and Caprese Sandwiches!
But sometimes I always wished was to have a 'warm' version of their caprese sandwich for those chiller Florida days or just for an added 'crunch' factor. You feel? So, that's what I did here. I took one of my favorite sandwiches, kept it simple and classic, with just two minor changes that take your average to the next level!
Ingredients to make a caprese sandwich:
2 slices Sourdough Bread
1 medium Heriloom Tomato, or any fresh garden tomato, sliced
4 oz. Burrata, sliced or halved
1 tbsp. Traditional Balsamic Vinegar
1 1/2 tbsp. Butter
Fresh Basil
Salt & Black Pepper, to taste
How to make a homemade caprese sandwich?
Preheat your griddle or a skillet over medium heat.
Generously spread the butter both sides of each sourdough slice.
Place on the heated griddle. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
Flip the bread slices over. On one slice, add a single layer of sliced tomatoes seasoned with salt and black pepper, the pulled apart burrata, and fresh basil. Drizzle with the balsamic vinegar. Add the top layer of bread and cook an additional 1-2 minutes on each side, until golden brown. Enjoy warm!
Now, it’s time to grab our aprons and begin baking deliciousness! ’till next time! xxL
