In N Out Smashburger Tacos

·

When you’re craving In-N-Out, but the closest one is a 2-days drive away, so you make these In-N-Out Smashburger Tacos that are made healthier and wayyy tastier 😋

Using my legit new favorite hot sauces - Mezzetta Mediterranean Pepperoncini (*chefs kiss*) & their Calabrian Chili for extra spice 🤌🏼

How to Make a Healthier In N Out Sauce?

Ingredients you'll need:

  • 1 cup Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tbsp. Mezzetta Pepperoncini Hot Sauce
  • 1 tsp. Mezzetta Calabrian Chili Hot Sauce, or to taste
  • 1/3 cup Grated Pickles
  • 1 tbsp. Dijon Mustard

How to make it:

  1. In a bowl, combine the yogurt, hot sauces, grated pickles, and Dijon.
  2. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  3. Optional: Add pickle juice to taste.

How to Make Quick Caramelized Onions:

  1. In a skillet over medium high heat, add the butter and finely diced onions.
  2. Sauté until caramelized and deeply golden.
  3. To help speed up the process, you can add a small dash of water every 5 minutes or so, until the water has been fully absorbed.

What to Serve with Smashburger Tacos:

  • Potatoes Salad
  • French Fries
  • Baked Beans
  • Quinoa Salad
  • Sweet Potato Fries
  • Grilled Vegetables
  • Mac N Cheese
  • Grilled Corn
  • Creamy Coleslaw
  • Arugula Salad

Can you Prep Smashburger Tacos in Advance?

Yes, you could prep the sauce, caramelized onions, and (uncooked) beef-tortillas the day before. I recommend placing the beef-tortillas on a layer parchment lined baking tray and covering tightly with Saran Wrap before placing in the fridge. The caramelized onions will need to be reheated on the stovetop for 4-5 minutes with a splash of water. Cook the beef-tortillas as instructed below when ready to serve. Yum!!

How to Store Leftover Smashburger Tacos? How to Reheat?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 400F for 5-6 minutes, or tortilla-side down on the stovetop for 3-4 minutes over medium high heat with olive oil (until tortilla is crispy again).

Ingredients

Servings: 6-7 tacos

  • 2 tbsp. Unsalted butter
  • 1 Yellow Onion, finely diced
  • 1 lb. Ground Beef
  • 1 tsp. EACH: Paprika, Garlic Powder, Salt & Black Pepper
  • 1 cup Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 2 tbsp. Mezzetta Pepperoncini Hot Sauce
  • 1 tsp. Mezzetta Calabrian Chili Hot Sauce, or to taste
  • 1/3 cup Grated Pickles
  • 1 tbsp. Dijon Mustard
  • Lettuce, for serving
  • Sliced Tomatoes, for serving
  • 6-7 Corn Tortillas
  • Olive Oil, for cooking

Instructions

  1. To Make the Caramelized Onions: In a skillet over medium high heat, add the butter and finely diced onions. Sauté until caramelized and deeply golden.
  2. To Make the Sauce: In a bowl, combine the yogurt, hot sauces, grated pickles, and Dijon. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. (Optional: Add pickle juice to taste.)
  3. To Make the Tacos: In a large bowl, combine the beef and seasonings. Mix just to combine, then separate into 6-7 equally sized balls.
  4. Smash each burger ball onto the tortilla and spread out evenly. Season with salt and black pepper.
  5. Add oil to a hot skillet, then place the tacos meat-side down to cook 2-3 minutes on each side. It’s okay if the beef doesn’t stick perfectly to the tortilla, just use your spatula to assist.
  6. (Optional: Add a slice of cheddar and cover to cook for 1 minute.)
  7. Garnish each taco with lettuce, sliced tomatoes, the In-N-Out Sauce, and caramelized onions. Enjoy warm!
